It’s been a long hot summer or can we say it is Spring and get away with the heat and the humidity feel. Easily said but we know it is possible. Any which way, it does make us feel that much better and our lives easier if we imagine so. It’s really a choice and everybody can make that considering, there’s something called understanding, maturity and free will. How we react to people around us, the reactions that they trigger in us, the way we can deal with situations, turning wrong into right and just maybe then Summer can sound and maybe feel like Spring?
All of us are aware that we desire happiness and want to keep suffering, away from our lives. And also understand the fact that our minds that exert the greatest influence on ourselves are the ones capable of giving us mental peace. Without this inner peace, however comfortable we are materially, even we would be ridden with worry and ultimately give in to unhappiness. Disturbing emotions like hatred, anger, pride, lust, greed and envy can become the bane of our existence, upsetting our inner equilibrium and give rise to anxiety, depression, confusion and stress.
As I glance out of the window, I realize that though the summer sky is a beautiful shade of blue, and the trees are lush green, the flowers stark and the air swollen with humidity feels unsafe to venture out in. Somewhat like our lives that look beautiful outside but are a totally different story inside. Outside my window are people in shirtsleeves, braving the summer and its travails. Children hanging onto their mother’s saris, braving a time after staying home in the Pandemic. Everything is strange. Similarly, people hang on to their feelings fully aware of where they can and cannot take themselves. Spring opens that trapdoor, like our need to step out of our minds just needing that special nudge.
But our doggedness to cling to the past hinges on our abilities to trust intuition. The difference between a blocked person and one who is free is the precise openness to moment-by-moment invention. It is easy to be born children but the trick is can we remain as that? We have to learn to step out of ourselves and develop different interest in life as it presents itself to us, in people, things, literature, music, and the list of course is endless. The world remains rich, throbbing with treasures, beautiful souls and interesting places to explore. Thankfully it is an interactive universe.
When our days seem gray and turbulent, and too many thoughts are vying for our attention, we just have to take a step back and evaluate how we feel, work on our inner child, come to terms with ourselves and spring forward. And sometimes even at those times we treat our fears gently, when our lives feel like a highway going nowhere. We have to realize that refusal to begin our journey could keep us from ever having one. Do not let your life have any periods of drought.
Life can be so beautiful, but we must experience enough emotional equilibrium to feel all its colors. Devoid of spiritual connect to our larger selves we get scattered, and lose our bearings. Our human experiences are painful, and delicate but very beautiful, because we live life filled with loss and gain. Staggering under the weight of our emotions we ebb and flow at intervals. We cannot choose much of what happens in our life but we can choose how we relate to it.
We have to be like the trees that lean into the approaching seasons, submitting to the will of nature. But we shroud our lives with our ‘busyness’, distracting ourselves from the matters at hand while our lives rush past us pell-mell. Perhaps we are too busy living a life to have a life worth living!
